Aside from eye-candy appeal I can think of no benefit to the HTML
presentation of e-mail. Plain text works for everybody.

Additionally, imho, with dozens of mailing list e-mails each day, the HTML
presentations are no longer eye-candy but eye-jolting as we leap from
garish color, to 3" font, to backgrounds that are nearly the same color as
the type, to my wife's favorite, the small throbbing hearts with an arrow
through them.

I'd hope that we stayed with ASCII plain text too. (Besides, not all
e-mailers play nice with HTML, Lotus being just one.)
