More on the saga of my first ever AS/400 install, here's the saga so far. For those new to the story, I have worked on AS/400 before but never installed one. Now, we just got one, a 720 with V4R3 and I got the install assignment. Everyone here is even more clueless than I am (they still wonder how to spell AS/400 - is it a slash or a dash?) Was sailing along happily with the Welcome CD until the "Install Client Access on AS/400" section. Followed the steps and ran into trouble. Not everything installed on the AS/400. Failed. Copied the info from the joblog. Also, studied a message posted here by Jim Langston, indicating that he had trouble with this once and how he fixed it. It turned out that for one of the licensed programs, I needed to install the program and language separately. This was not documented in the installation instructions I had, but was in the joblog when the install failed. In addition, I had missed the endsbs *all *immed, so some programs wouldn't restore. So, after a couple of tries, managed to get the Install Client Access on AS/400 done. Next, the Welcome CD said to install PTFs, preceded by a backup of the system. These were not documented until much later in the CD, but I found them and got 'em done. Now, need to get Client Access installed on the PC side. More in another report...
