Both my major two customers intend to take the power off, and then they discuss a new problem: The power hasn't been physically off for 1-2 years now. Will it give any new (mechanical) problems? But apart from tabloid journalists that paint a 'New Year Firework' picture as what we can expect from computers in the very second I can't however imagine why this should be needed. Granted there are still Y2K problems out there. Probably also in OS/400 but at least in many application programs. They will show up at some time, sooner or later (if it doesn't show up, it is not a problem). Starting all systems from zero will force some of the problems to show up, so a PWRDWNSYS will only have the effect of concentrating the problems on 2000.01.01. I must admit that I would prefer that they would drop in a little more slowly in the first week after beeing sober!
