Using RPGIV you could write a service program that uses an arbitrarily
chosen date (preferably a Sunday far enough in the past so you won't look at
dates before it) and calculate the number of days between that date and the
date whose day of the week you want to know.  Use subdur.  Divide the result
by 7 and get the day of the week from the remainder. Sunday = remainder
0,....  A language with zero based arrays would let you write more elegant
looking code.
