  • Subject: IFS Security for Created objects

I have noticed the following 'strange' behavior for objects created in IFS
directories. I cannot find it in any of the security documentation but it is
repeatable on V4R4 and V3R2 systems.

If the OWNER of the directory where objects are created has all authorities for
it (the directory) then the user creating objects or directories in it will get
all authority as expected.

If the Owner does NOT have authority to the directory then the user creating
objects in it get only Data Authorities, no Object authorities. Hence they can
edit these objects but cannot rename them move them or delete them!

This is different from Library security where the user creating always gets all
authority to the object. (Assuming NO group profiles in any of this.)

Is this expected behaviour? Has any one else seen this? Is this documented? Am I
confused??

Thanks
 - Larry
