Your opinion on home use is strictly an opinion. You should remain legal. If you have a problem with the vendors cost or policy then you should try to resolve that with the vendor. If unable to do so then you should select an alternative situation or vendor. Such as the numerous timesharing options. I have ran across this mentality in other software products. Someone thinks Microsoft charges too much for Windows so they feel that purchasing one copy should be enough for their entire organization. There is NO difference in the two situations. We have 15 AS/400's. We have to pay IBM for the development AS/400. Some might feel that we shouldn't have to, (at least with the basic, non tools, stuff). However IBM says pay, so we pay. We have negotiated with other vendors for our application software. SSA allows us a free copy of BPCS on the development machine, so on with other applications. d2ba@xtra.co.nz on 12/02/99 03:36:44 AM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com@Internet To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com@Internet cc: Fax to: Subject: Re: What to have on a new AS/400 But he only wants it for home use-so he should not have to have the 5 to 10k license if he is learning!!! .Hence the prices reflected on Ebay .I have had an agument with IBM for aa long time reguarding the use of AS/400s for non -business use.More students should own one to practise on!
