I got our last CUM tape without having to pay.  But IBM tried to
charge me every inch of the way.

I called IBM to ask them how I got a CUM tape, they transferred
me to IBM Direct who wanted to charge me something like $85 to
order the CUM tape.  I told them I wasn't going to pay $85 for a
free CUM tape, I just wanted to know how to order one without
having to pay.  They told me they would tell me how, for $85.  I
wasn't going to pay so *click*.

Next call, I called some other IBM number, and told them the problem,
that I just wanted to know how to order a CUM tape, I didn't want
to order it through IBM direct, I wanted to order it myself, how do I
do it?  They stayed on the line, and connected to... IBM Direct.  Who
stated it was going to cost me $85 to find out.  No, the other IBM
person said, I just wanted to know how to order it, I didn't want them
to order it.  $85.  The second IBMer disconnected with IBM direct
and called someone else.

After 5 or 6 people she talks to, she finds the IBM Fax number, and
gives me the number and what to request for a CUM tape.  So I
could get it for free.

Now, here's the funny thing.  That was 2 years ago.  I need another
CUM tape, and have left and returned to this company since then.  The
person who was here in the meantime lost the phone number.

Now I have to go through the whole rigmarole with IBM to find the
fax # and the order number I need to place to get the CUM tape free.

Sure it's free, it just costs you $85 to order it.
