A tar file is an archive of a number of files. Sorta like a zip file, but not compressed. I don't know if there is a tar utility for the AS/400, but if you can get the file to a Windows machine, there are tar utilities that run there. Perhaps you can even find one that's free. (Sorry, I don't know what the magical incantations for OVRTAPF are. Tape devices have never been kind to me!) Cheers!
