Predictions, no special order, just ruminations: prediction 1: The AS/400 will be IBM's test vehicle to move the code base to unicode from ascii and epcdic(sp?) prediction 2: Java on the AS/400 will falter as Microsoft's "embrace and extend" policy begins the destruction of the Java standard. prediction 3: AS/400 marketing will be moved away from RS/6000 marketing in an belated attempt to establish two nameplates in the marketplace. prediciton 4: The trade press will announce the death of the AS/400 product line at least once during the year, but probably twice. prediction 5: Unit sales of the AS/400 will increase year over year, but revenues will sag by 8% or so. prediction 6: The %BIF count will approach 250. There will be a meta%BIF. I thought I would query you folks to see what you think is the real (not wished) future of the 400, its technology, IBM's future with it, development platforms, etc. Just shoot anything you think worth while.
