Well, I took a closer look at my problem (created a logical and another user with same authority couldn't use it) and then decided to see if the same thing occurred with the physical file, and the answer is yes. Now, I can do an UPDDTA and browse the file fine, someone else can not. There are no date fields in this file. There seems to be one instance where there is a packed number in an alpha field (I'm gonna have to fix that) but I can browse it fine, I just see the characters that make up the numbers, while the other use gets "The retrieved record contains invalid data." I copied his user profile to another profile named test, logged on as test, and test gets the same error. Someone has suggested it had something to do with a date field, but there are no date fields in the file layout, only types 'S' (zoned) 'A' (character) and ' ' (defaults to zoned). Anyone have any clues? Thanks in advance for any hints.
