Hi Folks, I just came from GITEX'99 (www.gitex.com <http://www.gitex.com> ) . This one of the major IT exhibition of the Middle East. Many new products etc. etc..... Every other company's (Microsoft, Oracle, Novell, Sun etc. etc.) representation was fabulous except IBM's representation. First of all nobody could even notice IBM's banner in the middle of all those Hi-fi ad banners from Microsoft and others. After a frantic search when I reach there, I see some guys from IBM who didn't seem to know what was happening. Any way there was a banking product having e-commerce features which was meant for the AS400. On specific queries, the gentleman at the counter politely told me that IBM did not have an AS400 there at the stall. He could only give me a brief explanation on the banking software. For all queries he told me that if I visited the IBM Internet site, I can get more information. He only knew that much. He or nobody else even knew about the latest version of the AS400. The best joke was when he said that - 'Domino has been a part of the AS400 ever since the AS400 it was launched'. I really do not understand why IBM does not take the right initiative to market its product... and that too such a fabulous product like the AS400. Is this lack of initiative from IBM specific to the Indian subcontinent ? Many of us were wondering as to how secure the future will be for people like us who love the AS400 and want to be working on projects centred around it !!!! When will we see the AS400 banners along with others ????? Vijosh A Systems & Software SEEPZ, Bombay, INDIA.
