I totally agree with you there. A few days ago I was looking for info. on 
Query Management on V4R4 and it took me to the "Info Center". After muddling 
around for a while I finally gave up, went to V4R3 of the online books 
(which did NOT take me to the info. center) and found what I needed in a few 
minutes.

IMHO in this case newer does not mean better.
