distribution queues -- MIDRANGE-L

I sent the following request earlier and received no response.  Can any one
help?

"Does anyone know how to monitor the status of distribution queues?  I need
to automate the monitoring of remote AS400 systems and correct problems
after a failure.  I have been unable to find API's and don't like the idea
of printing the status with WRKDSTQ QUEUE(*ALL) OUTPUT(*PRINT) and parsing
the spool file.  There's got to be a better way."
