Jeff, From the AS/400 Handbook: Media and Storage Extensions (#2619) This prerequisite feature for using the Backup Recovery and Media Services/400 (BRMS/400) (5769-BR1). It is also required for developing Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) dynamic retrieval functions. APIs provide for using or building applications to manage tape usage and the recall of data from offline media to DASD. For software developers who want to customize their own storage management applications, Media and Storage Extensions provides an API that enables application monitoring and control of media usage, including volumes to be selected and volume expiration dates. The API also enables fast search for IBM 3480, 3490, 3490E, and 3575 tape drives. An API is also provided to handle the interruption that occurs when an application tries to open a database file that has been migrated to off-line media. The API enables on-demand recall of a database file from off-line media to DASD and resumption of the application without requiring changes to the application. HTH - Larry <snip> > In a PTF cover letter, it suggests installing 5763SS1 Option 18 "Media & > Storage Extensions". I tried to do just that, but it isn't on our V3R2 > tape. But it _does_ show up when I take option 11 (Install Licensed > Program) from the LICPGM menu. I can't find any info in the softcopy > library, nor can I find any info on the IBM AS/400 web site, unless I > just don't know where to look. > > Does anyone know what this licensed program will do for me?
