I am not sure of the cost, but I can check that out too for you, but we have
two HP's, one main one is
a HP8000 and the A/R department has a HP4000, both running similar to how
you currently have your HP5si; both are running to our network too as
Ethernet; they were a bit flaky at first, but the budget kept us down on
memory until we could convince them to purchase more.  Go with as much as
you can (at least 32Mb) it will be less painful in the long run.   We did
not loose any reports, just would lock, have to be powered off, varied off,
varied on and restarted.... time consuming irritant.   The AFP/IPDS kit is
MPI Blue Kit here too, configured as a local IPDS printer.

Hi Folks !

We have an HP 5si (24ppm) attached to our AS/400 via the MPI Blue Kit
(supports AFP) with a simm that allows supports IPDS... It has a twin-ax
attachment feature and connects over Cat 5 twisted pair. It configures
as a *IPDS printer on the AS/400. This printer has a LOT of miles on it
(the printer - was the system printer for an NCR Unix box for 4 or 5
years before this past January's AS/400 installation...) and it is
getting a bit flaky.

We print between 1000 - 1500 Invoices daily and then after that it just
does print screens and 10-30 page prints sporadically throughout the
day...

So what are you all using ?

Lexmark ?
HP ?
IBM ? (or is that Lexmark now ?)
someone else ?

SMALL company so price is important...
