I am new to this list, so I hope that I get this right.  This is in reply to 
the post from John Hall.  

I have a utility that I wrote to compare two files at the field level.  It 
lists fields that remain the same, the fields that changed, fields added, and 
fields removed.  Also, has the option of creating calculations specs to write 
a conversion program.  

If this could be of any help to you, I would be happy to share it.
