That may not be a good idea, unless that Windows recycle bin has a LOT OF DASD. 
 John, I'm surprised you'd suggest this!

You may want to try this method.... If you select a D M from the operators LCD 
panel, and then IPL with the new version of the OS mounted on your IPL device 
(usually tape), then you'll have the option to scratch the system, reformat the 
source load drive, and then install the LIC and new OS.  Check the procedures 
for restoring a system after a complete disk loss.
