Don,

>So if, say, a client GIVES me their D10 as part of my payment ... what would
>it cost me to get the thing up to V3R2???

Too much. Don't take the machine.

Remember, CISC licenses cannot be transferred. So it doesn't matter
if the machine already has V3R2.. The cost to you is the same,
because it is treated as a new license. And the D10 is in the P10
tier. It would be much better to just buy a new RISC machine.

But, since you asked, a few P10 tier charges are:
  OS/400 7000
  ADTS 3350
  RPG 2400
  Query 1600
  SQL 1600

You're already over $15K, and only have a basic development box which
is stuck at V3R2 so you don't even get the new goodies. Then add in
Client Access or whatever else you want, and you can see why these
boxes do not have any resale value.

You'd be much better off getting a new 150 or 170, particularly if you
can qualify for a Partners In Development lease.
