If you create the new file with all of the same field names then you
should be able to do a cpyf *MAP

It should work for you as long as the alpha field only contains numeric.

If this doesn't work split it into two conversions.

First Define the 1 Alpha field as 1 Numeric.  Then do a cpyf *NOCHK this
will "force" the data in.

Then you can do a chgpf to change the field lengths on the (2) 1 numeric
fields.

You shouldn't need to write a program at all.
