The RCLSTG ran fine! The system found 93 objects and put them in QRCL.
Looking in the QRCL there was 829 objects sitting there. I backed it up to
tape and cleared it out.
The end result of running RCLSTG was the '% system ASP used' going
from 74 per cent to 70.4 percent. The big change seems to be the
'current/maximum used' went from 300 to a little over 700.
As an added note: I'm tuning up a system that has been running for
the last few years without performance type operations being run. All they
have been doing was monthy backups and clearing out old data. I'm impressed!
The AS400 does pretty much take care of itself.
Thanks,
Art

If you've got the time to put system in restricted state and run RCLSTG go
ahead (if you haven't run it in the last year it's probably about time
anyway), but if you can't take the system to a restricted state (or don't
have an idea how long it will run) and want to find out how much space it
would reclaim, instead submit RTVDSKINF to run overnight (doesn't require
a restricted state), then when it completes run PRTDSKINF *LIB On 3rd
page check the line "Storage affected by RCLSTG" for an idea of how much
disk you would get back after running RCLSTG (and then clearing QRCL
library).

PRTDSKINF *LIB is useful too to see how much space your libraries are
eating up.
I run RTVDSKINF & PRTDSKINF *LIB each Sunday evening and leave the
report on a queue, so I can go back and see what libraries are growing at
what rate.

Subject: storage

Hello,
I got a request from a co-worker for more storage room and was
looking at this Reclaiming Storage procedure. I do not think it has been
run
in a long time, not in the 7 months I been here. Is there a lot of storage
that gets freed up from running this procedure?
I was thinking of kicking it off tonight since it looks like it will take a
while to run.
Thanks in advance
Art
