Hi Chuck, I have always found it easier to read and maintain this type of problem by assigning complex string to another variable. eg. in your case.... DCL VAR(&SELECT) TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(75) CHGVAR &SELECT ('BLDN07 *EQ %RANGE(' *TCAT &START *TCAT ' ' *TCAT &END *TCAT ')' ) OPNQRYF FILE((&FILE)) QRYSLT(&SELECT) That way, you don't need to worry too much about doubling up on quotes. However, in your example, there is a space missing between the &START *TCAT and '" "'. ie. &START *TCAT'" "' - *TCAT '" "'. Good luck.
