RE: Age discrimination

My kids remind me that I'm getting old, at the tender age of 43. I've been
doing the AS400 gig since 1988, and I'm sure it's because I love the thing
so much, and still learn so much that I don't feel old at all. The OS
matures (just like me).  Seriously,  my manager (about the same vintage as
me) was an AS400 techo some years back, and very good too.  I know for sure
that he really appreciates old heads, in his IT department.  He doesn't
like that CTRL_ALT_DEL mentality.  Did I tell you the one about the old
bull and the young bull sitting on top of their hill, overlooking their
"flock" of cows........(another time maybe)

I believe age discrimination certainly exists, and will return in
the year 2000. But as for right now they need all of us.
Be carefull, know the job your applying for. Only claim the
tools you need to get the job done with a liitle knowledge on the
side. Many As400 people now reside under managers who know
little or nothing about the AS400. In fact they do away with
the as400 in a second if they could find an nt system that
in their dreams could work as well. Many managers do not
want anyone on their staff who shines better than they do.

The NT staff will sleep happy tonight dreaming of Bill Gates
and his future promises. For the AS400 staff that day has
been here for a while. But be carefull they probably won't
let you use it.  Really I can send E-mail from the AS400.
NT Response.  But why would you want to.

By the way has Bill returned his AS400's yet.

While browsing the ZDNET article (a link posted by Al Barsa) I found this:

A study claiming no shortage of IT professionals and rampant age

Anyone experience this sort of thing?
