Sorry, I should have been clearer about the reason for the question. I am assisting a client with software selection. One of the vendors is well aware that this client has a preference for AS/400. The vendor's software can run with SQL Server on NT (this client is way too big for this to be workable) or can run with Oracle on Unix. Since the vendor knows that the client likes AS/400, they have responded to the RFI with a recommendation that the client run their industry-specific software on Oracle on the AS/400. They don't have any client that have done it but say it can certainly be done. I checked out the Oracle and IBM web sites and they say it can be done too, but they don't get specific. What I'd like to be able to do for the client is just give them some high level info such as "hey, everyone says it's a piece of cake" or "here are a few good questions for the vendor". They will have to investigate in more detail if the vendor is selected for demo or more. DB2 is not just a product on the AS400, but rather a necessary part of OS400. Perhaps your vendor has some sort of API to translate Oracle requests into DB2 requests. Sounds pretty squirrly to me. eric.delong@pmsi-services.com ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Oracle on AS/400? Author: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > at INET_WACO Date: 6/29/99 9:08 PM I have a vendor telling me that their Oracle based product can run on the AS/400 (although I'm not convinced they've actually done it). So, I checked the Oracle and AS/400 web sites and found I didn't really understand what was involved. Can anyone help me understand this in general terms? It wouldn't be me that had to make it work, but I'd like to know if it works well or not and what some of the issues are.
