By the way what ever happen to the IBM education series on the AS400, our
3.2
has the screens, menus and all that but when you try to use it it's blank,
it
was great to use that in the old days when you had extra time. EDS

Ok its time I added my two cents. I took courses in Basic, Fortran, Cobol,
and assembly. I learned RPG when the company I worked for switched from a
MP/M Business Basic II machine to an AS400 and MAPICS/DB. I could not
believe how many ptf's had to be applied to MAPICS. When the fix I needed
was not available, I started to read the source code. I taught myself CL
and RPG. Later I changed jobs and start to work at an AS400 Software
Developer where I went through IBM's education courses on the 400. 10 years
later I am programming modules in RPGLE, calling procedures written in C for
a TCP/IP socket application. Yes you can grow your own programmers,
especially if they know your business and have the aptitude and discipline.
