Do you have access to the vendor's new version during development??
To me that would be the biggest problem. 
If you do have access, you update the VARPG app in development.
Test it and so forth.  Then when the weekend comes update the
objects on the LAN server where you have the VARPG app installed.
It will probably take you longer to install the new version of 
the vendors software than it would take to update the VARPG
objects.

If you have the VARPG app installed locally on the PCs, it gets a 
little more indept.  You then have to repackage the VARPG app
and then go to each PC and update the app there.

So we did not have to touch every PC, we went for the LAN install.
The other thing you could do is write a VARPG menu app that
front-ends all the other VARPG apps.  This menu app could check
an apps version number and then do the update atuomatically if
it is needed.  Granted this would take some interesting coding.
One reason why I have not actually written it myself. But I am
thinking about doing it.
