Normally SQL is embedded into other objects.  These objects may 
be programs, like RPG or COBOL.  It may be within Queries from 
Query/400.  It may be in Query Management Definitions.  Query 
Manager is one part of SQL/400.  There are such animals as stored 
procedures, and I may be wrong on this, but I think the 400 
implementation of stored procedures is a program, like RPG or COBOL, 
with imbedded SQL.  There are also third party products out there 
that generate different objects.
Can you find some examples of some in your production library?  
Once you found them can you do a WRKOBJ prodlib/sqlname  where 
prodlib is the name of your production library and sqlname is the 
name of the SQL you are talking about?  Then we can tell from the 
object type what the origin of the object is.

Can someone give me a quick lesson on SQL, like what type of create the file 
should be, i.e. txt etc.  how to compile and run.  A previous employee here 
created some sql's compiled and placed into a production lib. however not all 
we need in production is listed.........
