System trace

I know the system data areas book (since defunct) used to give a list of the
system programs and what they do.  We are having a problem with a system
pointer where a program is failing in a system Q program.  The program
QWPAPTFL.  The system dumps the job automatically with a MCH0601 error.
Running the job stream in debug does NOT force a halt on the error.  Running
JOBTRC we can see where the module is failing, but not why.  Any ideas or
where to look???
