John, >lazy programmers. If the prompter or syntax doesn't do it, How many >programmers >do you really, really, really think (look around at all the people you >ever worked with) >will take the time to "Make it look Pretty" ? > >Just curious I hear you, but I don't the situation is quite that bad regarding CF. First, IMHO the main reason some people use RPG prompting is because of the archaic column sensitive positioning. Take that away and let them just freely key the source, and it would be inexcusable not to indent while you are at it. So it's not like the deplorable situation with trying to pretty up a CLP after using the command prompter. I mean, how many VB, C [++], or Java programmers do you know which don't indent source as they key it? It's almost a given when you are just keying source without prompting. Or at least it should be. <g> Second, there will surely be freeware or trade rag utilities to "pretty up" and realign a source member. So if the programmer who went before you is really that bad, you could use a PDM user option or SEU user-defined block line command to clean it up before you attempt to maintain the code. (Or better yet, use an extensible PC-based editor like CODE/400 or Flex/Edit, and let the editor do it.) If a programmer couldn't learn to type free-form expressions and indent while he was at it, I don't think he'd work for me too long. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
