I mean SQL is so much clearer than "sorting" and listing a file ???(Of course I offer this in jest..) so no flaming on the merits of sql vs everything else... I recall going to some pre-annoucement meeting on the 400... Some of the guys in the lab was asked a "LOT" of questions regarding this same subject.. SQL,et all vs other methods.. Finally after a lot of muttering, it was admitted that in "some" cases, a simple sort and list was much faster than any of the "newer" methods...
