Some of our clients use psf/400 (you need this product to actually print on an *IPDS printer), and afp/400 to crate the overlays (page segment's, etc) from your AS/400. You actually don't need the second product, you can use the afp drivers from client access and create your page segments and overlays directly on your pc with any windows application. But if you are going to print overlays remotely you should use afp/400 (same result but overlays are smaller). Another advantage on this method is that you can attach the overlay directly to your printer file an control it from your software and the security can be manage on the as400 because the overlay is an object on your system. You can use this overlays on any *IPDS printer, many laser printers have an IPDS card (optional). I think you are right that it is indeed pricy but there a number of features that a package like CB/400 or ACOM that are nice: Simplifiying laser check design. Minimize or eliminate application code changes (really nice when dealing with packaged applications) Flexible and maintanable bank id's and micr lines Audit trails Positive pay interfaces Multiple bank account support Flexible and maintanable spool file merging etc. We looked at doing this ourselves and just really felt that we could not provide all the functionality and flexibility in a timely manner. Due to our circumstances we did not competively review the various products. However, I can say that Optio may be worth looking at - www.optionsoftware.com. hth "John Bussert" <jbussert@stecnet.com> on 04/06/99 02:15:46 PM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To: "Midrange-L" <midrange-l@midrange.com> cc: (bcc: Mike Crump/IS/Ball-Foster) Subject: Laser checks A Has anyone used APF and overlays for printing laser checks off the 400? I know there is a product by ACOM out there, but it seems pretty pricy for what you get. Any comments by anyone??
