Question.

How many companies out there that use the AS/400 are actually training
people up. ie taking people on as trainee operators and teching them
everything, taking operators and training them up as programmers in RPG
or other languages.

I know how difficult it was for me to get into 1) operations and then 2)
programming

and was wondering (now that I have been programming for almost 6 years)
if it is still difficult for people with ability to get a start in IT

1. can I assume IS department only?
2. why are the numbers so low? Developers at the
places that I work are permitted much more then
$500 each.
