John,

I suspect the reason putting a save file to CD has not been cracked, is
because nobody has gotten serious enough about doing yet (except
Bradenmark).

The "trick" with saving to tape and then copying the data to CDR works
because RSTxxx expects tape records from CD.

The "trick" with going straight from save file to CDR will be either a)
reformat a save file into a "tape" stream file -or- b) get SAVxxx to
write to a stream file when it thinks it is writing to a tape file.

It is my guess that it will be fairly simple when found. Finding it
may or may not be simple.

I have spent a perhaps an hour or two on the B option (SAVxxx to a
stream file), but did not get very far.

I have also tryied the obvious of just copying the save file to a
stream file. That didnt work.

Of course, the key piece of information is that we know it CAN be done.
Probably just have to flip the right bits or call the right API.
But....we are all busy, and the current method is working for me.
Perhaps after my next release I'll give it a go again. In the
meantime, if anybody discovers the "trick", I for one would love to
hear it!

BTW, you can copy save file data to a CD, copy it back off into a save
file and then rstobj from it. That does work (just like FTP). The
trick is allowing a RSTOBJ/LIB directly from the CD.

Regards,
Bob Crothers
