Can I ask a dumb question? My wife always says no.
Is this transfer a recurring thing or is this a one time only?
If it is one time only, never mind, but if it is recurring, why not:

Turn on journaling.
Save the file, journal and journal receivers to tape.
Ship the tape.
Restore the file, journal and receivers from tape.

Then
Save the journal receivers from the source system.
Send the saved journaled changes via SNADS or FTP
Apply the journaled changes to the file.

I think that there is a 2 gigabyte size limit for SNADS and
FTP.
