As an Alias name can be up to thirty charachters in length I kind of doubt
it.
Most RPG Programmers would not use alias in the DDS because we already have
the abilit
y to rename fields on the input specs, if the fields are not an exact match
in length or
decimal positions or we need both pieces of data. It appears that this is
more suitable to languages like cobol.

Subject: Alias Field Names in RPG programs

Hi All,

If I have a physical file with 2 fields and both of them having alias
names within the file. And if this file is used in an RPG program, can I use
the alias field names inside the RPG instead of real field names? In COBOL,
if
we do COPY DD- instead of COPY DDS-, we can get / use the alias names. Is
there
any such thing in RPG and RPGLE? Sometime back one of my co-workers is
mentioning abt some way of using the alias field names in RPG programs. Is
there any Keyword or H-spec type of thing for this?? Can anyone explain me
this? TIA.

Regards,
Venu
