You can use an ODBC link between the access tables and a file on the 400 -
this would enable you to either update the data on the fly, or create an
update query in access so that you can choose when to update. You will need
the ODBC drivers installed that are a part of Client Access. Open the
"32bit ODBC" applet in Control Panel, select System DSN and Add. Select the
Client Access driver. Change the default libraries box to include the
library that contains the file that you want to update. Go into Access,
then add a new table, of type link. When the dialog box opens, change the
"files of type:" box to ODBC. You should now get a list of all files in
that AS400 library. Select the one you are interested in. You can then use
this as you would any other access table to query/update etc.
I would advise working with a test copy of the file untill you are
comfortable with what you are doing - ODBC works using SQL - it's all too
easy to screw up! There are some pretty good books about using ODBC with
Access - I can't recommend one off the top of my head but a trip to the
local library would be worthwhile if you are interested in using this area
more.

Hope this helps,
Stuart
