This has little to do with language though Jon. I'd also suggest that we will learn OO by seeing the OO objects, not through the tools themselves. I learned what RPG could do by watching what IBM did with it in their mid-range software and tools. I'd see some new bauble from IBM and chase back through the code to see "how'd they do that." It was very useful, and paced to my slower than normal learning curve.
