        It depends on your situation.  Do you plan on upgrading your OS anytime 
in 
the future.  Some shops don't due to financial constraints.  Are you 
planning to upgrade your hardware in the near future?  If so, your OS 
should be upgraded as part of the cost of the upgrade.
        You can be assured that you will pay more for OS upgrades in the 
future. 
 IBM software prices are going up.  For example - Notes Domino Server 
software is no longer free, firewall software is no longer free, 
Intelligent Miner (data warehousing software) went up 700% to $75000.  You 
will find that IBM hardware prices will go down (in order to complete with 
the market) and software prices will continue to go up.
