Thank you to all who replied . I I have did some experimenting and have found a solution. What I was aiming to acheive was to restrict access to my production data through the use of adoptive authority while still allowing restrictive viewing of data through other tools such as ODBC using a "VIEW". This "VIEW" also allows me to restrict data selection using the application security files in conjuction with USER id. What I found was by restricting security on "FILE1" and "FILE2" to read data only with all other access turned off I could retrieve the data through "VIEW1" but could not retreive the data going directly against "FILE1" or "FILE2" . > I am in the process of securing some of our data and was wondering if > someone could answer if the following assumption would be correct. > I have > LIBRARYA with FILE1 and FILE2. > LIBRARYB with VIEW1 which points to FILE1 and FILE2 in > LIBRARYA . > Now for the fun part. USER1 does not have any authority to LIBRARYA at all > but does have *USE authority to LibraryB and VIEW1. > Would USER1 be able to view the data from LIBRARYA in FILE1 and FILE2 > through VIEW1. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
