Dave Mahadevan, who used to be very active on this list, posted a freeware
chat program a couple of years ago. He'd grown it himself, and I seem to
remember he was about 90% satisfied with it. It may be in the archive -
have a look. If not, Dave's e-mail address certainly will be; maybe you
could contact him directly.

There is a product from Bytware, Inc. called PeekPlus that provides
interactive
chat between you and any user that is signed on to the system.

We use their product, but I'm not associated with the company.
