Two thoughts: Could you write a trigger program to validate the dates and attach it to the file itself? Then the old program will have to deal with bad date messages, and most likely can. The other thought is to write a little program that just spins through the file checking dates and have it run first, while the job is stilll in interactive mode? That way, at least the batch job won't even start unless the dates are all ok.
