You are using an HFS API. HFS is not the same as IFS; it's a subset of
IFS. From the HFS API manual:

"The APIs automatically support the document library services (DLS) file
system and the optical file system (QOPT), and they can support
user-written file systems also."

Check out the Unix-type APIs manual, chapter 2, for IFS APIs. They will
allow you can go anywhere.

Subject: Assistance with QHFRTVAT and IFS

Folks:

I'm trying to use the QHFRTVAT API to access information about IFS
objects but running into a snag.

When I call the API for an object in the \QDLS file system, it works
fine... but when I try to get information about something else, it fails
with a CPF1F83 message ("File system name ___ not found").
