And I'm not sure if that will prevent the Query Optimizer from changing things on you. [Donning asbestos and other insulating garments] If you can, try to pare down your data, creating work files with -just- the data you need. Don't use more than 1 or 2 files in a query; IMHO more files make more trouble! Try to keep the select/omit on the primary (first) file. And, no, you may NOT borrow our guru!
