It has been my experience that very few shops use any error handling at all. Typically, I have seen *PSSR, DUMP ENDSR *CANCL, to "gracefully" exit the program. Perhaps if more people used error handling, they'd realise the deficiencies in the current setup and then complain to IBM. I have a suspicion that IBM hasn't heard many complaints in this area, and so have no motivation to fix it.
