>Hello Paul, > >Well, your attitude is a little strange. You don't want the vendor >installing "stuff" into QSYS but _you're_ >quite happy doing it? Hmm .... No, we use an alternate library added above QSYS for anything that needs to be at the system level. Except for configuration objects and profiles (that -have- to go there), we don't add anything to QSYS. Things in QSYS get replaced by IBM during OS and PTF installs. IBM has repeatedly cautioned the world to NOT change things in QSYS unless you have a good list of things that you've changed, so you can change 'em again. (: Yes, there are security issues with an alternate library for QSYS mods, but I prefer that to not knowing what's been modified. And, I can always qualify a command to QSYS if I want to make sure I'm using the IBM version. >"Properly" is using the system the way it was designed -- not inventing >your own processes. A vendor >utility >library added to the library list was fine for the S/38 but is no longer >appropriate for the AS/400. The utility library I was referring to is -our- utility library (with routing programs &c). Copies of vendor commands live here, pointing back to the product library. And, since our utility libraries are part of every LIBL, the commands are always accessable. >There is no need for you to feel any more nervous about vendor products >than IBM's products. If you >do have >reason to be nervous perhaps you shouldn't be buying products from that >vendor? *sigh* Would that we had that choice. We have some software products for which I have to assume we are the Alpha site. I say that based on some of the programming nightmares we have had to deal with (ie counting from 1 to 5,000,000 to delay a job for a half second). That kind of thing means the programmers are amateurs (or have never been given access to CLP). -I- don't want 'em monkeying with QSYS! --Paul E Musselman PaulMmn@ix.netcom.com +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
