I'm very thankful for the ADA. Removing barriers for disabled people is a good
idea, don't you
agree?

Believe me, I have no problem with the generally common sense parts of the act.
 Removing Barriers,
Wider doors, Ramps, Automatic doors, tones in addition to lights for things
like elevators,
Handicapped parking etc these are all good things. It's the stupid way the law
is written! For
example at my office building the landlord was required to have handicapped
parking at EVERY
entrance. The main entrance has double doors, elevators, very low slop
sidewalk and several
handicapped spaces immediatly next to the door. The entrance we use has a
single door (quite stiff I
might add) and has NO place you can go without using a stairway. Then at the
top of same is a door
with a round pull knob that is recessed 18" into a very thick wall. Anyone with
any physical
handicap at all would avoid that door at all costs. So they checked and it
seems that handicapped
spaces do not need to be next to the door! So they put is as far away as
possible in a spot that
nearly no-one used because you can't get out of it at 5PM AND if anyone parks
there you can't see
the road without putting your bumper into it. Works great, no handicapped
people will ever use it
nor will anyone else! BUT IT MEETS REQUIREMENTS!

that is all
