using pdm, rpgIII programs say RPG in the type. rpg IV say rpgle.  the rpg iv
programs look quite different, in that they have d specs instead of e specs, and
the data structures are defined in the d specs.  also, they allow lower case,
longer field names, eval commands where you can do multiple math commands on a
single line, etc, etc, etc.

rpg/400 is a term for rpg iii on the as/400, when it came out years ago.  rpg 
iii
was a system 38 term, different than rpg ii which was used on the system
3/32/34/36.

rpg iv and ile rpg are the same.  to turn an rpg iii program into ile, there is 
a
utility from ibm (cvtrpgile) or something like that.  also, there are a couple 
of
products you can buy or download that do a better job than the ibm one.
