Go to the Software Installation manual, and follow the directions to do a Manual Install. However, when you get to the Install Licensed Internal Code (LIC) screen, take option 2 which is "Install Licensed Internal Code and Initialize System", which is the same as the old, famed, option 24. No, not even IBM will be able to get your data. Of course, if you are keeping ANY DASD, returning the old system without one disk head will be the veritable equivalent to a disk failure (assuming no RAID or mirroring). Don't ask IBM to do it for you, because they will want BIG $$$$$.
