You mean to tell me that there are no special deals that IBM is offering to schools who wish to teach on their machine? They complain about a shortage, and then quote an outrageous price on a machine!?! They should be giving away machines to schools! Call someone who handles used equipement. (There are tons of adds in the back of Midrange Computing and News/400). You could most likely find a V3R2 machine (at the very least) for a very good price. 50k... hahah! And just for a few students to tinker on. (Although it wouldn't be a bad idea to also use it for administration, etc...) Bradley V.
