1) Bummer that your development machine is behind in operating systems. We've successfully used the argument here that we need to test the OS out on the development machine prior to putting it into production. We've been authorized hardware upgrades for the sole purpose of being able to keep up with OS. 2) Since he has the file open with ODBC why not pump the data up via the ODBC connection versus getting out and using File transfer? eric.delong@pmsi-services.com on 10/29/98 05:37:27 PM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com@Internet To: midrange-l@midrange.com@Internet cc: Subject: ODBC connection problem... Here's a new one on me. One of our PC developers here called me to assist him with a problem. Here's an outline of what we're doing: 1) Connect via ODBC to file x. 2) check last record to see if the file needs to be refreshed. 3) disconnect from the open data source. 4) conditionally, use RFROMPCB to transfer new data, replacing the old member with the new. Here's the problem: ODBC put a member lock on the data file. One would think that when we disconnect from the data source, the job's member lock would be removed. It's not. Since the lock is being maintained, the RFROMPCB command fails because it cannot allocate the member to clear it before transferring the new data. OS400 is at V3R2 (our development box, used for testing). This same process seems to work fine on the production box (V3R7). He's reluctant to try work-arounds since this process works on production.
