Ditto here! It was several years ago and we got stuck for several
hours because their tape was bad. Between a good local CE who could
and tell us which shop nearby had the same model and Al being friendly
with that very shop we were able to borrow a tape and get running again.

We called support on it later-the system had *insisted* on having
the tape during the upgrade but about all appeared to do was
(electronically) glance at it once it loaded to see that it was
there and then carry on!

Don't remember which model they were on at the time, I do remember they
were going from V3R0M5 to V3R1, they had both a 6250 reel drive and
a rack mount 3490 (3480? not sure). The 3490 was NOT the alternate
IPL drive though, the 6250 was, and support thought that might have
been a similar factor with another report of this but they weren't sure.

Per support we *should* not have needed it. (Read: having the load
request the tape was a bug!) Only OS/400 was changing-not the
hardware.
